CVV offers free, confidential, and non-judgmental emotional support. You don’t need to be in crisis to call — you can just call to talk.
ECOS Program
The ECOS Program (Escuta, Cuidado e Orientação em Saúde Mental) is USP’s mental health support service. It offers:
- Walk-in listening sessions without appointment
- Guidance on mental health services
- Referral to the care network (USP or SUS)
ECOS Butantã (IQ-USP campus):
- Location: Rua do Anfiteatro, 181 – Favo 22 (in front of CRUSP Block C entrance)

Important: ECOS does not handle psychiatric emergencies. In acute crisis situations, go to Pronto Socorro Lapa or call SAMU (192).
Mental Health Map
Emergency Protocol
If you witness a mental health emergency (intense agitation, suicide attempt, risky behavior), USP’s Emergency Protocol guides you on how to act:
- Assess the immediate risk
- Stay calm and speak with empathy, without judgment
- Do not leave the person alone
- Call SAMU (192) or Fire Department (193) if necessary
- Contact family members or trusted people
Psychological Counseling Service (SAP)
The SAP at the Institute of Psychology offers free psychological care to the USP community.

Acolhe-USP
Acolhe-USP is the Support and Prevention Program for Alcohol and Drug Use.

SUS Network
Off campus, you can access mental health services through SUS:
- UBS (Unidade Básica de Saúde): entry point for non-emergency care
- CAPS (Centro de Atenção Psicossocial): specialized care for mental disorders
- CAPS AD: specialized in alcohol and other drugs
University Hospital (HU)
Graduate students are entitled to care at the USP University Hospital.
How to register:
- Go in person to SAME (2nd floor of HU)
- Bring: USP Card, ID, CPF, and National Health Card (CNS)
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm

Dependents: spouse and children under 18 can be registered. Request at the IQ Graduate Office.
Laboratory Safety
IQ-USP CIPA
CIPA (Comissão Interna de Prevenção de Acidentes) is responsible for:
- Identifying and reporting risk conditions
- Requesting preventive measures
- Investigating accidents and proposing corrections
- Educating about accident prevention
